About the book
In the shattered remains of Lkossa, magic is a forgotten tale, especially for girls like sixteen-year-old Koffi. Bound by debt to the infamous Night Zoo, she tends to its formidable and mystical beasts, hoping to erase her family's dues and win their freedom. Yet, when her family's safety is jeopardized by the Zoo's merciless owner, Koffi taps into a mysterious force she barely comprehends, setting off a chain of grave events.
Ekon, the younger son of a revered hero, is poised to join the Sons of the Six—an esteemed cadre of warriors—thereby continuing his family's distinguished history. However, a devastating blaze on the eve of his crucial rite disrupts everything. Amid the chaos, Ekon confronts not only the Shetani—a dread creature that has haunted the city and his dreams for a century—but also a peculiar girl with the apparent ability to repel the monster.
